MEDEA: A Demonstration of Bloom’s taxonomy for Learning with Video

Mathy Vanbuel

Bloom’s original work on taxonomy and the research work that followed still provides a useful basis to classify learning effects of video based learning and teaching. In this interactive presentation, we will describe how this taxonomy of learning objectives and the corresponding activity verbs can be used for the creation of video-based learning materials and for the assessment of learning effectiveness.

Using video clips and programmes (including entries that have been submitted to the MEDEA Awards), we intend to demonstrate how video is being used to support learning in the three “domains”: cognition, affection and psychomotor skills. Video clips will illustrate in detail for each of the different levels of learning how Bloom’s original as well as the revised (digital) versions of Anderson and Churches are still actual and easily and immediately usable for media based learning content creation.
